Quebec Buying up to 1,675 Volvo Hybrid Buses
Volvo Buses? North American subsidiary, Nova Bus, has received an order for 475 hybrid buses from Quebec, Canada, with an option for a further 1,200 vehicles.?The customer, ATUQ, is a consortium consisting of the province?s nine transit authorities.
Delivery of the 475 LFS HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) buses will start in 2014.
This is the single largest order for hybrid vehicles that the Volvo Group has ever signed, the company says.?To date, Volvo Buses has delivered more than 1,600 hybrid buses to customers.
Compared with conventional diesel-powered buses, the Nova LFS HEV offers about 30 percent lower fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, according to Volvo.
Nova Bus is also working to develop other environmentally friendly technologies including plug-in hybrids and all-electric buses, the company says.
Last year, Volvo Buses joined the Volvo Group?s cooperation with WWF Climate Savers. The cooperation is based on the group?s commitment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30 million tons from construction equipment, buses and trucks manufactured through 2014. The Volvo Group was?the world?s first automotive manufacturer to join Climate Savers, in 2010.
