IT & comm minister Milind Deora's Twitter account 'suspended'

The Twitter account of Milind Deora, the minister of state for communications and information technology, has reportedly been suspended.

It is not clear whether this was done due to some technical glitch, hacking or as part of the government's crackdown on socialmedia. Another speculation doing rounds is that the account may have been reported to Twitter as being a 'fake' or 'parody' account, leading to its suspension. Twitter has recently blocked parody accounts operating under the names of PMO and Manmohan Singh.

Currently, a search for Milind Deora on Twitter shows there is no user by that name, while reports from the Wall Street Journal said that those accessing his handle (@milinddeora) received the message "The profile you are trying to view has been suspended."

The spokesman for the Home Ministry, Kuldeep Dhatwalia, denied having any information about this case, Wall Street Journal said. However, Deora told a prominent daily that his account is getting verified, hence has been temporarily suspended.

On Thursday, Deora had defended the Congress-led UPA government's efforts to block hate content on the internet on the microblogging site. His comments received a lot of flak from netizens, with many terming it a 'lie' and questioning the intentions of the government.

'Milind Deora's Twitter Account "Suspended"' too is trending on Twitter in India with many terming it 'poetic justice'.
